UNIMAID Alumni Calls for Unity to Support Institution, Students

The University of Maidugiri (UNIMAID), Alumni Forum, Abuja Chapter, has called on all graduates of the school who are resident in Abuja to identify with the Alumni, as well as to unite in order to impact on their alma mater and students.

President, UNIMAID Alumni Forum Abuja Chapter, Shettima Kukawa made the call during the forum’s 2025 quarterly walk-out and networking in Abuja, tagged, “Re-Awakening 2.0”

Kukawa said there was the need for them to come together, unite and make impact in both the institution and students.

“What we are doing are in two stages which are building the Alumni and building unity.

“We’re trying to bring our people together. It’s only when you achieve that that you are able to make the necessary impact on the people, the university, and the students

“Most of them who graduated from UNIMAID that are in this town have never met themselves.

“This is what we do as part of our programmes to bring our members together,” he said.

He added: “This is the ninth edition, even though we call it ‘Re-Awakening 2.0’. But it’s the ninth session that we had to bring our members together. You see, everybody is here. Some people have not seen themselves for almost 10, 15, 20 years and we’re reconnecting.

“And those of us in Abuja, it’s just for us to also socialise, build an established network that we can be able to build on ourselves and also build on our alumni association and even the university itself.

“The university recently celebrated 50 years of its anniversary and we have challenges and issues with the alumni association. One is largely the lack of participation by members.

“And that is what we’re trying to do; create awareness about why this is important. And then, let’s all come together as an alumni association that we can be able to benefit ourselves and the university at large.”

On why all UNIMAID graduates in Abuja should identify with the Alumni Forum, he said, “if they join the forum, you get to meet friends, colleagues that you’ve not seen for a very long time., You’ll be able to also meet new people.

The Secretary of the forum, Maimuma Abdullahi, noted that re-awakening is not just a walk but a forum that provides UNIMAID graduates the opportunity to meet and network.

“This forum is more than just exercise. It’s a platform to bring everyone together. You know, we are in Abuja, everybody is doing his thing. We don’t get to meet often,” she said.

Former president of the forum, Hamisu Medugu in his remarks said, “We are doing it to bring unity and network among ourselves. We want everybody to be coming so that we know each other, our families and be united, strong and better for future.”
