
Police arrest 3 suspects over killing of woman, 6 children in Kano
The Kano State Police Command has arrested three principal suspects in connection with the killing of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters of Kano metropolis.
The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation carried out on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
The statement said the suspects were apprehended under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, during a sting operation that lasted between 10:00pm on January 17 and 4:00am on January 18, 2026.
Those arrested were identified as Umar Auwalu, 23, of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters; Isyaku Yakubu, also known as Chebe, 40, of Sagagi Quarters; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, also known as Wawo, 21, of Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters.
Police said preliminary investigation revealed that Umar Auwalu, who was described as the leader of the group and a nephew to the deceased woman, confessed to his involvement in the crime. He also allegedly admitted that the syndicate had been involved in other violent attacks in the state.
Items recovered from the suspects included bloodstained clothes, two mobile phones belonging to the deceased, a cutlass, a club, some cash and other weapons believed to have been used during the attack.
The police command said investigation into the case was ongoing, adding that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
The command also commended the officers involved in the operation and appreciated members of the public for their support and cooperation, assuring residents of its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.
