Adamawa First Lady Leads Awareness Walk to Boost Campaign Against Gender-Based Violence
As part of activities marking the 2025 Sixteen Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, the Adamawa State Government on 26 November held a Public Awareness Walk to strengthen advocacy against GBV, with a particular focus on schoolchildren and safe digital practices.
The walk was led by the First Lady of Adamawa State, Her Excellency Hajiya Lami Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, alongside the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Neido Geoffrey Kofulto; the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajiya Zainab Umar Adamu; and a coalition of development partners committed to ending violence against women and children.
The sensitization walk commenced at Bachure Junction and concluded at Bachure Primary School, where the First Lady addressed pupils, teachers, and community members on the growing importance of digital safety, personal boundaries, and early education in preventing abuse.
Speaking to journalists at the school, the First Lady emphasized the need for young girls to safeguard their privacy both online and offline. She stated:
“Your privacy belongs to you. Do not give anyone access to your personal information. Be mindful of what you post and how you use social media.”
She highlighted her sustained commitment to GBV prevention through her initiative, the Fresh Air Pro-Life Empowerment Foundation, which works in partnership with development organizations to protect the rights and wellbeing of women and girls.
The First Lady expressed gratitude to all development partners for their continued support, stressing that collective action remains vital in preventing and eliminating all forms of gender-based violence.
