Eagles’ MoAdams dedicates first AFCON goal to sick mother
Akor Adams has dedicated his goal against Mozambique in the AFCON 25 round of 16 tie to his mother who fell ill before the match.
The Kogi-born Nigerian scored the fourth goal as Nigeria crushed the Mambas in a dominant encounter at Fes stadium.
He also provided two assists in the encounter.
The goal is Adams’ third international strike for Nigeria, and his first ever AFCON goal in his debut tournament.
Appreciating God for his maiden AFCON strike after the match, the 22-year-old dedicated the goal to his mother who was hospitalized in Morocco yesterday but is better and recovering well.
“First, glory to God for the privilege to have my first AFCON goal like all of you have been waiting for,” he started. “But the goal is dedicated to my mum, she is supposed to be here but she is in a hospital right now. “She was admitted this morning but she’s much better now.”
Adams who flew his parents to watch him represent Nigeria in the AFCON ’25 tournament in Morocco, also dismissed presence of bad blood within the squad in the aftermath of Victor Osimhen’s on-field spat with Ademola Lookman.
“I am happy for the team, Victor had a fantastic game, Lookman had a fantastic game, we came out with the victory and we are happy.” Adams, who’s parents were in the stands as Nigeria defeated Tunisia 3-2 in the group stage, has featured in all four of Nigeria’s AFCON ’25 matches, also providing two assists.
