EPL: Liverpool net five times in seven-goal win over West Ham
Liverpool scored five goals- including three in the first half- to claim a resounding 5-2 victory over West Ham United at Anfield.
The EPL clash saw top-four chasing Reds breeze past relegation-threatened West Ham with three goals in a one-sided first half performance.
Arne Slot’s side then held off the Hammers who briefly threatened a second half comeback.
All five Liverpool goals came from different goalscorers, with Hugo Ekitike putting the hosts in the lead with a shot into the near post for his 16th goal of the season. Captain Virgil van DIjk doubled the lead with a header from Dominik Szoboszlai’s corner in the 24th minute, and Alexis Mac Allister’s deflected volley two minutes from halftime ensured a three-goal lead at the break.
Tomas Soucek reduced the deficit early in the second half, but further strikes from Cody Gakpo and Axel DIsasi’s own goal ensured Liverpool ease to victory, scoring five goals for the first time in the EPL this season.
The champions moved up to fifth on the log, level on points with fourth-placed Manchester United who have played a game less, while West Ham United remain 18th with 25 points from 28 matches.
Another seven-goal drama ensued at Burnley, who came from three goals down to level but conceded a 90th-minute goal to lose 4-3 to Brentford. Newcastle United also lost 3-2 at home to Everton.
