Justice Catherine Ogunsanya of the Ogun State High Court, sitting in Ijebu Ode, on Monday, nullified the impeachment of Wale Adedayo as Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government.
The court also ordered the local government to pay Adedayo N30m in damages, in addition to his full entitlements as a former local government chairman.
Adedayo was removed in September 2023 by seven councillors, following a letter he wrote to former governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba, alleging diversion of local government funds.
He challenged his removal in court and described his removal as unconstitutional.
Justice Ogunsanya ruled that the councillors did not follow the provisions of the Ogun State Local Government Law of 2006, declaring the impeachment null and void. Reacting to the judgment, Adedayo said, “This is a good development, it is a victory for our growing democracy.
“And our thanks are to God who made this possible. He knows we went there to serve the people honestly and has refused to disgrace us, to God be all the glory.”
