AFCON: Ghanaian, South African referees named for Nigeria vs Morocco
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed a Ghanaian referee and South African officials to handle the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final clash between Nigeria and Morocco.
In a statement on Tuesday, CAF named Ghana’s Daniel Nii Laryea as the referee for the high-profile encounter. He will be assisted by South Africa’s Zakhele Siwela and Lesotho’s Souru Phatsoane.
Mozambique’s Arsénio Maringule has been appointed as the third assistant referee, while Rwanda’s Samuel Uwikunda will serve as the fourth official.
CAF also confirmed the officials for the video assistant referee (VAR) duties, with South Africa’s Tom Abongile, Tunisia’s Haythem Guirat, and Kenya’s Stephen Yiembe assigned to the VAR booth. Ethiopia’s Lydia Abebe will act as referee assessor for the match.
The semi-final will see the Super Eagles face the Atlas Lions at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Wednesday, with kick-off scheduled for 9 p.m. Nigerian time.
Nigeria booked their place in the semi-finals after defeating Algeria 2–0 in the quarter-finals. The Super Eagles had earlier recorded a commanding win over Mozambique in the knockout stage and finished the group phase with a perfect nine points from three matches.
Coached by Eric Chelle, Nigeria have been the most prolific side in the tournament, scoring 14 goals so far — a tally that sets a new national record for goals scored by the country in a single AFCON competition.
Nigerians can now invest ₦2.5 million on premium domains and profit about ₦17-₦25 million. All earnings paid in US Dollars. Rather than wonder, click here to find out how it works.
