Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu, has unveiled new initiatives to intensify the fight against banditry, pledging to make the menace a thing of the past.
The governor made the disclosure on Wednesday while opening the 17th Regular State Executive Council meeting in Sokoto, the last council session for 2025, according to a statement on Thursday.
Aliyu said the new measures, which complement ongoing security efforts, aim to strengthen intelligence gathering and improve coordination with security agencies, noting that existing strategies were already yielding positive results.
“Intelligence remains a critical factor in checkmating criminal elements, and we are confident that these new initiatives will further enhance our capacity to tackle banditry decisively,” the governor said.
He stressed that since assuming office, his administration had consistently supported security agencies with logistics and other critical resources to boost their operational capacity across the 13 local government areas affected by banditry.
Aliyu also appealed to residents to continue supporting government efforts by providing timely and useful information to security agencies.
“As a government, we are ready to do all it takes to ensure that banditry becomes history in Sokoto State, but we cannot do it alone,” he said.
The governor commended members of the State Executive Council for their commitment, attributing the administration’s achievements to their support and teamwork. He also thanked the people of the state for their prayers and cooperation, assuring them of continued dividends of democracy.
Aliyu used the occasion to congratulate the newly appointed Head of the Civil Service, Abdulkadir Ahmed Mohamed, and the Senior Special Assistant on Cabinet Matters, Bande Rika, urging them to contribute meaningfully to the realization of his administration’s nine-point Smart Innovative Agenda.
