The Bauchi State Government has inaugurated a Central Working Committee to facilitate the establishment of the Mining Institute, Alkaleri, Bauchi State.
The committee was inaugurated on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Natural Resources Development, Maiwada Bello, at the ministry’s headquarters in Bauchi.
He described the proposed institute as a strategic investment designed to strengthen technical capacity, research, and professional training in the state’s mining sector.
According to Bello, MIABAS will play a critical role in unlocking the state’s vast mineral resources by equipping citizens with essential skills in exploration, extraction, processing, value addition, and environmental management.
“The institute will fill critical knowledge gaps, strengthen local content, and create new pathways for youth empowerment, employment, and sustainable development across the mining value chain,” he stated.
Bello disclosed that the committee is expected to deliver a comprehensive establishment framework for MIABAS within three months, noting that its members were selected from key ministries, institutions, and industry bodies based on their expertise and relevant experience.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering a world-class mining education and innovation centre that would serve both national and international needs.
