
Okpebholo proposes N939.850bn for Edo as 2026 fiscal estimates

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State on Tuesday presented the 2026 Appropriation Bill of N939.850 billion to the State House of Assembly for consideration and passage.
Governor Okpebholo, who tagged the Appropriation Bill budget of Hope and Growth, noted that it was designed to build on the foundation laid in the 2025 fiscal year.
He described it as a budget that “speaks to the needs of the people”, focuses on security, infrastructure, agriculture, education, job creation and healthcare.
He also stated that the budget sought to consolidate on the gains recorded during his first year in office, expanding the Government’s reach, restoring the hope of Edo people in governance.

According to him, the 2026 Budget of Hope and Growth is built on SHINE Agenda, which has five pillars, namely, Security, Health, Infrastructure, Natural Resources/Agriculture, and Education.
“The vision of the 2026 Budget of Hope and Growth is simple; it is to bring about prosperity and a united Edo State where every citizen has hope and every community feels the impact of governance”, he said.
The 2026 budget estimate is N3340.774 billion higher than the 2025 budget presented in December 10, 2024.
The 2026 budget is also N264.65billion higher than the approved budget by the State House of Assembly after it shored up to N675,200,058,858,52 billion.
The 2025 budget was further reviewed up to N799,820,058,858,52 billion in October, 2025 during the supplement.
The 2026 budget estimate is N140.3 billion higher than the supplement budget of N799,820,058,858,52
The governor said the sum of N637 billion, representing 68% was allocated to capital expenditure, while N302 billion, representing 32% was for recurrent expenditure.
Governor Okpebholo said the budget would be financed from the Internally Generated Revenue of N160billion, Federal Account Allocation Committee ( FAAC) of N480 billion, capital receipts and grants of N153billion, Public Private-Partnership of N146billion and other revenue windows available to the State.
The sectoral breakdown of the budget indicates that the economic sector has a lion share of N614.2 billion, followed by administration sector of N157.7billion, social sector N148.9 billion and Justice sector of N19billion.

The governor said the 2025 budget made a real impact on the lives of the people of the State and recorded strong performance in both capital and recurrent expenditure.
He said in the 2025 fiscal year, the Internally Generated Revenue increased because of the blockage of leakages and strengthened collections.
He added that significant achievements were recorded across key sectors of security, roads, health care, agriculture, education, and job creation.
