The Deputy Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, KufreAbasi Edidem, has lauded award of excellence bestowed on the State Governor, Umo Eno, describing it as a collective accolade for the Akwa Ibom people.
The Governor won the Nigeria Excellence Awards in Public Service (NEAPS) on Sustainable Development and Community Empowerment on Saturday.
The award, presented on behalf of President Bola Tinubu by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, was conferred on the Akwa Ibom Governor at a ceremony held at the Conference Centre of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The award is coming barely few days after the governor was blacklisted by the International Press Institute, Nigeria, and included him in its ‘book of infamy’ over alleged repression of journalists.
But speaking with our correspondent in Uyo on Tuesday, the lawmaker said the honour is a reflection of the governor’s commitment to sustainable development, grassroots empowerment and inclusive governance under his administration’s ARISE Agenda.
Edidem who represents Itu State Constituency at the State House of Assembly noted the award was not only a personal accolade for the governor, but a collective honour for the people of Akwa Ibom State, whose lives have continued to be positively impacted through strategic policies in the areas of economic inclusion, youth empowerment, social welfare, infrastructure and community development.
He said, “Governor Umo Eno has, within a short time, demonstrated uncommon dedication to improving the standard of living of our people. His focus on empowering communities, strengthening entrepreneurship, and promoting sustainable development has placed Akwa Ibom on a new trajectory of progress and national recognition.
‘’The award is not only a personal accolade for the governor, but a collective honour for the people of Akwa Ibom State, whose lives have continued to be positively impacted through strategic policies in the areas of economic inclusion, youth empowerment, social welfare, infrastructure and community development.”
He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to partnering the executive arm in the delivery of impactful governance to the people.
