Plateau assembly passes 2026 budget
The Plateau State House of Assembly on Wednesday passed the N817.5 billion Appropriation Bill for the 2026 fiscal year.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang had on November 14, 2025, presented a proposed budget of N914.86 billion to the House for consideration, comprising N573.4 billion for capital expenditure and N341.4 billion for recurrent expenditure.
However, presenting the report of the House Committee on Appropriations, its chairman, Hon. Adamu Aliyu, said the committee reviewed and scrutinised the estimates of the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) before making its recommendations.
“The committee is recommending a total estimate of N817,509,689,432 for approval, comprising recurrent expenditure of N316,418,089,490 and capital expenditure of N501,091,599,942,” Aliyu said.
The House thereafter resolved into the Committee of Supply, chaired by the Speaker, Hon. Daniel Naanlong, following a motion moved by Hon. Joseph Bukari and seconded by Hon. Gabriel Dewan, for clause-by-clause consideration of the budget.
After deliberations, the lawmakers adopted the committee’s report and passed the appropriation bill.
At plenary, Speaker Naanlong commended members for what he described as thorough scrutiny of the estimates, which ensured a credible and realistic appropriation.
He directed that a clean copy of the approved budget be transmitted to Governor Mutfwang for assent.
Meanwhile, the House has adjourned plenary for the festive period and will reconvene on February 2, 2026.
