
EDUCATION: Governor Lawal approves ₦5bn for reconstruction of Zurmi School of Nursing
Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has approved the sum of ₦5 billion for the reconstruction of the Zurmi School of Nursing in Zurmi Local Government Area of the state.
The approval, according to the state government, is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare service delivery and expand access to quality health facilities at the grassroots.
Governor Lawal disclosed this at the flag-off of an empowerment programme for 850 beneficiaries in Zurmi town. He was represented at the event by the Deputy Governor, Mani Malam Mummuni.
Speaking at the ceremony, the deputy governor said the intervention underscored the administration’s commitment to implementing people-oriented and impactful projects across the 14 local government areas of the state.
He also revealed that arrangements had been concluded for the demolition and reconstruction of the Zurmi Emirate Palace as part of efforts to preserve and enhance the cultural and traditional heritage of the people.
“Plans have been concluded for the remodelling of the Emirate Palace to meet modern standards, and very soon work will commence,” he said.
Mummuni further disclosed that a ₦2 billion contract had been awarded for the construction of Kanwa Road, while work was ongoing on seven kilometres of the Zurmi–Rukudawa Road, three kilometres of roads within Zurmi town and another three kilometres of roads in Moriki.
He added that renovation works were also ongoing at the Zurmi Primary Healthcare Centre and the General Hospital, describing them as part of the administration’s commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy.
The governor commended the Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Alhaji Nasiru Ibrahim Zurmi, for initiating the empowerment programme and urged other political office holders to emulate the gesture.
Earlier, Alhaji Nasiru Ibrahim Zurmi said the initiative was designed to complement the state government’s efforts at improving the welfare of the people.
