AFCON: Super Eagles threaten to boycott training over unpaid win bonuses
Super Eagles players are reportedly threatening to boycott training over unpaid win bonuses from the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
According to Nigerian journalist Oluwashina Okeleji, the team is owed bonuses for their first four matches of the tournament, all of which they have won. The games include victories over Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda and Mozambique.
Despite remaining focused on their AFCON campaign, the players are said to have issued a firm warning that they will not train or travel to Marrakech on Thursday unless the issue is resolved.
“The Super Eagles are being owed winning bonuses for their first four matches at the #2025AFCON,” Okeleji posted on his X handle.
“The team remain focused but will not train or travel to Marrakech on Thursday if there’s no solution.”
The development comes just days before Nigeria’s crucial quarter-final clash against Algeria on Saturday, raising concerns about potential disruption to the team’s preparations if the situation is not swiftly addressed.
