AFCON: Morocco defeat Cameroon to seal Semi-final place
Brahim Diaz scored the opener as Morocco defeat Cameroon 2-0 to advance into the semi-final of AFCON 2025.
The tense match played at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium had the Real Madrid playmaker lead his nation to victory, with Ismael Saibari netting the second-half clincher.
Diaz scored his fifth AFCON ’25 goal when he bundled home at the far post to put Morocco one-nil up in the 26th minute. Cameroon were kept at arm’s length in attack while Morocco continued to probe the five-time AFCON champions without success in the first half.
They finally breached the Indomitable Lions’ wall in the 74th minute, Saibari with a controlled lo strike into the corner to seal a deserved win.
Morocco are into their sixth AFCON semi-final, where they’d face the winner of the Algeria and Super Eagles tie. Senegal earlier became the first nation to qualify for AFCON 2025 semi-final following a slim 1-0 win over Mali in their quarter-final encounter on Friday. The feisty West African showdown was decided by Iliman Ndiaye’s first half goal. Mali captain Yves Bissouma was also sent off for two bookings in the same half.
Senegal are into their third final-four in the last four AFCON tournaments, and will face either defending champions Ivory Coast, or Egypt for a chance to play in the final.
