Kwara: Bandits demand N300m ransom for 11 hostages
Armed bandits who abducted residents of Isapa in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State have issued a one-week ultimatum demanding N300 million for the release of the captives.
The kidnappers, who invaded the community on November 25, 2025, abducting at least 11 people, warned that failure to meet their deadline would result in the killing of the victims and a renewed attack on the town.
The Head Hunter of Isapa, Mr Adeyeye, confirmed that the bandits had contacted the community with the threat.
“They initially demanded N500 million but later reduced it to N300 million during negotiations.
“We pleaded with them to accept N5 million, but they rejected it. They said we have one week to meet their demand, or they will kill the abductees. They also threatened to attack the community again and harm many people,” he said.
The latest ultimatum follows an earlier ransom demand of N60 million confirmed by the President of the Isapa Peoples Progressive Union, Dr. Joel Adeyeye.
“None of the victims has been released so far. Two people, including a pregnant woman from Isapa, escaped earlier. The remaining abductees are mostly Hausa settler farmers living on the outskirts. Security operatives and local vigilantes have been patrolling the area, and we continue to pray for their safe rescue,” he said.
Dr. Adeyeye appealed to federal, state, and local authorities to intervene urgently, reiterating the community’s request for a permanent security presence.
“We have asked for a police station and a military base in the area to prevent recurring attacks,” he added.
The Isapa attack came just days after a similar assault on neighbouring Eruku, where three people were killed and 38 church worshippers abducted during a thanksgiving service.
All 38 victims have since been rescued and reunited with their families.
