Family demands answers over disappearance of police constable
The family of a missing police constable in Katsina State has raised the alarm and appealed to the authorities to unravel the circumstances surrounding his mysterious disappearance while on active duty.
Constable Ahmed Tukur (Force No. 531534) was last seen on November 25, 2025 at the Danmusa Divisional Police Command, where he signed the duty register and left his bag and food flask before stepping out to buy something across the road, but never returned.
Weekend Trust gathered that efforts by colleagues to reach him failed as his mobile lines have remained switched off, with tracking attempts showing “unknown location.”
His father, Malam Tukur Mamman ‘Yantumaki, said the family was informed of the incident two days later when Divisional Police Officer Isah Sule visited their home.
“The DPO told me that my son went out briefly and simply vanished. They said they were trying their best and asked us to pray for his safe return,” he said.
The distraught father, who is bedridden, questioned how a police officer on duty, armed and surrounded by people in a busy town, could disappear without a trace.
“The distance between the station and the Friday mosque where he reportedly vanished is just a few metres. How can a human being disappear like an animal?” he asked.
He criticised what he described as lack of concern from the authorities.
No one is explaining his whereabouts. No one from the government has shown serious concern. Would this be the case if it were the child of a top official?” he lamented.
The cop’s brother, Ibrahim Tukur, said the family had resorted to the social media and contacted influential individuals to help escalate the matter to the Katsina State commissioner of police.
“Since the police informed us, no one has followed up. We are still waiting,” he said.
The family is calling on Governor Dikko Radda and the state commissioner of police to intervene urgently.
Weekend Trust reached out to the police public relations officer in the state, DSP Abubakar Sadik Aliyu, said he was out of town but would enquire and revert. He was yet to respond as at the time of filing this report.
