Hashim Blames Northern Leaders for Insecurity, Hails Gen. Musa’s Appointment
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Gbenga Hashim, has asked Northern leaders to address the unending security challenges in the region.
He, however, applauded the appointment of Musa as the Minister of Defence, describing it as an opportunity that must produce tangible results.
In a statement in Kaduna, Hashim said he was impressed by Musa’s sincerity during Senate screening.
“I watched General Musa’s Senate clearance session. He sounded like someone genuinely committed to Nigeria. I hope he receives the full executive support needed to succeed in this critical assignment,” Hashim said.
He warned that Nigerians and international observers have lost patience with political assurances amid persistent killings and kidnappings.
“This is not the season for symbolism. This is the season for action. Nigerians want to see immediate steps. This appointment must not become another publicity stunt. We want to see policies, programmes, and results,” he added.
Hashim urged the executive and the National Assembly to fast-track legislation that would establish policing structures at state and local government levels, stressing that lasting security reform required strong local security capacity.
He said Northern leaders must confront failures in governance that have fuelled extremist recruitment.
“That extremists are finding recruits in their thousands is not accidental. It is the product of deep poverty caused by decades of governance failure at state and local government levels. While the Sahel crisis has contributed, poor local governance has compounded the problem,” he stated.
