No fewer than 17,500 sachets of Tramadol and 487 packs of Diazepam valued at about N12.2m have been recovered by the Bauchi State Police Command in the Ningi Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Wakil, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that a suspect, Ogbu Simon, linked to the seized drugs, had been arrested and detained.
The command added that the suspect was allegedly supplying narcotics from Onitsha, Anambra State, to communities in Ningi and its environs.
According to the statement, the arrest followed credible intelligence from a concerned resident who reported suspicious sacks being offloaded at a shop owned by the suspect on November 26, 2025, around 8 p.m.
Wakil disclosed that a team of detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer of Ningi, CSP Surajo Ibrahim Birnin Kudu, then conducted a raid on the shop.
The operation, according to the police, resulted in the recovery of four bags containing suspected diazepam (D5) and tramadol tablets.
Wakil stated that the Commissioner of Police, Sani Omolori Aliyu, had ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough and discreet investigation. He added that the Operation Restore Peace unit was also assigned to track down the suspect.
Led by CSP Abdulrazak Fada, the statement disclosed that the unit apprehended Simon, who reportedly confessed to supplying drugs to markets within and outside Ningi.
Items recovered from the suspect included 17,500 sachets of Tramadol and 487 packs of Diazepam, with the command estimating the total value of the drugs at N12.2m.
While disclosing that the suspect and the recovered exhibits would be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and prosecution, the statement noted that the state police boss reiterated the command’s commitment to combating drug-related crimes.
This arrest came shortly after the NDLEA announced on Sunday that its operatives had dismantled a social media–based drug distribution network that packaged illicit substances as imported Christmas cookies and snacks, leading to the arrest of two masterminds in Lagos.
