Anthony Joshua discharged from Lagos hospital after fatal Ogun crash
Two-time heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has been discharged from a hospital in Nigeria, days after a fatal road accident that claimed the lives of two of his close friends and team members.
Anthony Joshua was declared clinically fit to recuperate at home, the Lagos and Ogun state governments said in a joint statement on Wednesday, noting that the former world champion remains “heavy-hearted” over the tragic loss.
The 36-year-old Nigerian-born British heavyweight was a passenger in a Lexus SUV that collided with a stationary truck on Monday along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

A statement jointly signed by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, and Ogun State Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, confirmed that Joshua was discharged from Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the boxer is “heavy-hearted and full of emotions” following the deaths of his friends.
“The governments of Lagos and Ogun states once again commiserate with the families of the two young men, Lateef Ayodele and Sina Ghami, who tragically lost their lives in the road accident involving Anthony Joshua on December 29, 2025,” the statement said.
“We pray that the Almighty grant the repose of their souls and give their families and loved ones the fortitude to bear this painful loss.”
“Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu deeply appreciate the public concern and the show of love and affection over this very sad and unfortunate incident,” the statement said.
The two state governments also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his support throughout the process, as well as to the medical team at Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, who attended to Joshua and others injured in the accident.
After his discharge, Anthony Joshua proceeded to the funeral home to honour his late friends, the statement added.
