Edo targets 2.2m kids for measles, rubella vaccination
The Edo State Government has disclosed that it is targeting 2.2 million children for vaccination in the ongoing Nigeria Integrated Mass Vaccination Campaign for Measles and Rubella.
The Director, Disease Control and Immunisation of the Edo State Primary Healthcare Department Agency, Dr Eseigbe Efeomo, made the disclosure on Wednesday at a media parley organised to sensitise journalists on the vaccination.
He explained that the 10-day vaccination campaign would commence on January 20, 2026, across the 18 LGAs, with two days marked for a mop-up exercise.
He said, “The federal government has provided 2.2 million doses of vaccine for Edo, and we want to achieve over 95 per cent of coverage and reduce the child mortality rate.”
He explained that Edo fell in phase two, stream one of the immunisation campaign that began late last year in the North.
On his part, the State Coordinator of the National Primary Healthcare Department Agency, Mr Osawe Lawani, described measles and rubella as deadly viral infections.
He added that children from 9 months to 14 years would benefit from the 2-in-1 vaccination, and that vaccinated children would be issued vaccination cards.
