Governor Lawal inspects Gusau–Dansadau road, awards Dansadau–Nasarawa project
Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has travelled 108 kilometres to Dansadau town in Maru Local Government Area to inspect the ongoing construction of the Gusau–Dansadau Road and approve another road project linking Dansadau to Nasarawa.
The governor was received by a large crowd drawn from communities across the Dansadau Emirate during the visit, which was aimed at assessing the level of work on the road project awarded by his administration and interacting with communities along the corridor to identify their development needs.
A statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, said it was the first time in over 20 years that a sitting Zamfara governor visited Dansadau, noting that the last visit was during the tenure of former Governor Ahmad Sani Yariman Bakura.
The statement added that Dansadau, described as the largest ward in Maru Local Government Area, had suffered years of neglect under previous administrations.
During the inspection tour, Governor Lawal passed through Wanke, Magami and Dan Gulbi communities, among others, before inspecting the ongoing construction of the 108-kilometre Gusau–Dansadau Road.
According to the spokesperson, the visit was part of the governor’s commitment to bringing development closer to the people at the grassroots, in line with the Zamfara Rescue Mission.
In his welcome address, the Emir of Dansadau, Sarkin Kudu Alhaji Muhammad Garba Atu II, expressed the happiness of the people over the governor’s visit, describing the turnout as a reflection of their appreciation.
“As you can see, my people are extremely happy with your visit, and we are proud to have you in our midst,” the emir said.
He, however, noted that the emirate had several grievances and appealed to the governor to look into them. The royal father later presented a 10-page report detailing the concerns of the community for onward action.
Responding, Governor Lawal acknowledged the challenges facing the Dansadau Emirate, particularly poor road networks and insecurity, and assured the people of his administration’s resolve to address them.
He said road accessibility was critical to security operations and rapid response to attacks, stressing that this informed his decision to award and settle the contract for the construction of the Dansadau–Nasarawa Road.
“I came and witnessed what is going on. I have seen the difficulties you are facing. I have awarded the road contract from Dansadau to Nasarawa and settled the contractor. Very soon, work will commence,” the governor said.
He also promised the installation of solar power in the community to improve electricity supply.
The Emir later conferred the traditional title of Garkuwan Dansadau (Shield of Dansadau) on Governor Lawal in recognition of his efforts.
In a vote of thanks, the Deputy Governor, Mani Malam Mummuni, and the Chairman of Maru Local Government Area, Bello Jabaka, thanked the people for their support and warm reception of the governor.
In a related development, the Zamfara State First Lady, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, was conferred with the traditional title of Yar Gojen Dansadau by the Sarkin Kudu Dansadau, Alhaji Garba Muhammad Sarkin Kudu Atu II, in recognition of her contributions to social development, women empowerment and humanitarian services.
The title, which means “Queen of the Women of Dansadau,” was said to reflect her sustained efforts in promoting the welfare of women, children and vulnerable groups across the state.
In her remarks, the First Lady thanked the emirate council and the people of Dansadau for the honour, describing it as a collective recognition of efforts aimed at building a more inclusive and prosperous Zamfara State.
