Protest: Kano govt to relay NLC’s concerns on insecurity to Tinubu
The Kano State Government has said it will discuss the issues raised by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) during its peaceful protest against rising insecurity with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking to journalists after meeting with NLC members at the Government House, Kano, Sulaiman Wali, the Chief of Staff to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, described the protest as orderly and responsible, commending the conduct of the labour union.
He said security personnel were deployed to strategic locations across the state as early as 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of lives and property throughout the protest.
Wali assured the protesters of the state government’s commitment to sustaining a cordial relationship with organised labour and engaging constructively to promote development in Kano State and the country at large.
He reiterated that the concerns raised by the NLC would be forwarded to President Tinubu, stressing that peaceful protest is a constitutional right and that the government’s commendation of the NLC was in recognition of its lawful and peaceful conduct.
Earlier, Muttaqa Yusha’u, representative of the NLC President, said the protest was organised in line with a resolution of the Congress’ National Executive Council to hold a nationwide peaceful rally. He explained that the action was aimed at raising awareness and supporting government efforts at both national and state levels to address Nigeria’s security challenges.
Yusha’u reaffirmed the NLC’s commitment to a peaceful, humane and egalitarian Nigeria, noting that persistent insecurity continues to undermine these ideals.

Also speaking, Kabir Inuwa, the Kano State Chairman of the NLC, said the protest was organised to express workers’ dissatisfaction with the worsening security situation across the country, adding that the rally was a lawful and peaceful means of airing their concerns.
The Kano protest formed part of the NLC’s nationwide action to draw attention to insecurity and to advocate stronger measures to ensure peace and safety across Nigeria.
