Southwest Governors converge on Ibadan amid rising insecurity
The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is currently hosting his Southwest counterparts in Ibadan in wake of the rising insecurity across the country.
Our correspondent gathered that Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), and the Deputy Governor of Osun State, have all arrived at the Governor’s Office in Agodi.
While the purpose of the meeting has not yet been disclosed, it is expected that discussions will center on developing issues in the Southwest region.
In a statement, Sanwo-Olu’s Media Adviser, Gboyega Akosile, said Lagos Governor and Chairman of the South-West Governors Forum arrived for the meeting at 12:50pm.
“The meeting, convened by the South West Governors’ Forum, aims to tackle pressing issues affecting the region, including agriculture, regional cooperation and integration, food security, economic growth, and security of lives and property,” the statement said.
He added that the meeting would focus on strengthening security measures to protect lives and property in the South West, as well as exploring opportunities for collaboration and investment to drive economic growth and development in the region.
“The South-West Governors Forum meeting is a follow-up to a similar gathering held in Lagos on Thursday, February 13, 2025,” the statement read.
