Ekiti prosecutes 54 sanitation violators
The Ekiti State government has prosecuted 54 persons for violating the monthly environmental sanitation exercise held across the state last Saturday.
Of those arrested, 54 were fined by the Magistrate Court, while one individual was pardoned and set free.
Monitoring the exercise in Ado-Ekiti, the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Dr. Sunday Omoya, stated that the initiative is designed to encourage residents to take personal responsibility for maintaining a clean environment.
He warned, however, that anyone found on the streets without a legitimate reason during the designated sanitation hours would face legal sanctions.
The Director of Environmental Health and Sanitation, Mr. Ayodele Aluko, also emphasized the critical link between environmental cleanliness and public health.
“As we pursue growth and development, we must also ensure good health for our people. A clean environment remains fundamental to healthy living,” Aluko said.
