Gov. Fintiri Tasks Forest Guards on Professional Conduct
Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has cautioned newly trained forest guards against using their training to intimidate or harass peace-loving members of the public, urging them instead to act with professionalism and respect in the discharge of their duties.
The governor gave the charge at the graduation ceremony of 987 forest guards held at the General Murtala Mohammed College (GMMC), Yola. He was represented at the event by his deputy, Prof. Kaletapwa George Farauta.
Governor Fintiri described the graduands as fortunate citizens called to serve their communities and the nation, stressing that their conduct in the field would determine public trust and the success of the initiative.
Speaking on behalf of the governor, Prof. Farauta commended the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) for coordinating and overseeing the forest guard programme. She also called on residents of the state to support and cooperate with forest guards deployed to their communities to ensure effective service delivery.
The governor reaffirmed the Adamawa State Government’s commitment to supporting the initiative, noting that sustained backing was crucial to achieving lasting peace and security in the state.
“On my part, I wish to assure you of the continuous support of the Adamawa State Government for this initiative,” the governor said, while praying for enduring peace and security in Adamawa State, Nigeria and beyond.
Earlier, the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, described the forest guard initiative as a strategic blend of environmental protection and national security objectives. According to him, safeguarding forests is key to reclaiming national territory and securing citizens and their future.
Ribadu, who was represented by Col. E. E. Eswagu, reaffirmed the NSA’s unwavering commitment to the success of the programme, assuring President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of ONSA’s resolve to deliver tangible security, environmental and socio-economic outcomes in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
