Okorie’s solo goal secures Pillars victory over Nasarawa Utd
Kano Pillars took the lead against Nasarawa United in the 48th minute thanks to a brilliant solo effort by Okorie Jude.
The forward outmanoeuvred Nasarawa’s Utake Emmanuel, weaved past the defense and goalkeeper, and calmly slotted the ball into the empty net with a left-footed strike, giving Pillars a 1-0 lead at the Lafia Township Stadium.
Nasarawa United Head Coach Mbwas Mangut expressed his disappointment after the narrow defeat. He admitted, “we couldn’t take our chances” and “we didn’t take it.” Despite the setback, Mangut remains hopeful about the team’s prospects, saying “it’s a marathon that we continue to fight” and “the dream is still there.” With just four days until their next game, he is focusing on integrating new players quickly, noting, “I don’t think I have the time anymore.”
Chasing the top spot in the NPFL, Mangut believes a turnaround is still achievable: “Five, six points is a matter of two games.” The team is pursuing their first league title, and supporters remain optimistic.
Kano Pillars Coach Baba Ganaru praised his side’s performance, highlighting their defensive discipline: “We played very well. Defensively, we are very disciplined.” He credited the team’s character and mindset for the victory, stating, “I think I have told the players if they can put in the same character, the same performance, we can still get our maximum three points.”
Ganaru also observed Nasarawa United’s adjustment after conceding, saying, “it seems that they have changed the philosophy of playing a long kick, long looking, I think that is what affected them in this game.”
The win represents a rebuilding milestone for Kano Pillars, who have struggled near the bottom of the table this season. Ganaru expressed optimism about the team’s progress: “the team is improving, If you look at now, this is our fifth match without losing a match.”
