How Adamawa lady lost body parts in acid attack – Police

The Adamawa State Police Command has revealed how a lady, Eve Kwala, lost her ear, breast, and other parts of her body in an acid attack by an unidentified assailant.

Speaking in an interview with our correspondent, the spokesperson for the command, Suleiman Nguroje, said the incident occurred on December 10, 2021, but the case was reopened following public outcry.

He said the victim was inside a vehicle with four other occupants when the substance was poured on them.

“They were coming out from Ribadu Square in a vehicle with four occupants. Unfortunately, it was already dark. She was sitting in the front when somebody poured something on them, which they initially thought was water.

“Not quite long after they moved, she and another person started feeling scratches on their bodies. They then discovered it was not water. They were rushed to the hospital, where the doctor confirmed that it was acid that had been poured on them.”

Nguroje added that the incident led to Eve losing one of her ears, her breast, and parts of her body. The other victim sustained serious injuries to the head, arms, and hip. He noted that there was no immediate suspect because the victims could not see who poured the acid.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, had in early November directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of investigations to take over the case and ensure a thorough probe.

The commissioner instructed investigators to “review and reassess the entire case file without delay, gather all human and material evidence through statements earlier recorded, and any new material that may assist the investigation.”

He also ordered officers to trace and thoroughly investigate all persons connected directly or indirectly to the incident.

However, the police spokesperson explained that no arrest had been made and that there were still no suspects, noting that investigation was ongoing.

“Investigation has led us to the victim and other witnesses. She (Eve) was questioned on how the incident happened, but they don’t have any suspect. No arrest as of now. The command is doing everything possible to detect the perpetrators and bring them to book.”

The police urged members of the public with useful information to come forward, assuring that all details shared would be treated with the highest confidentiality.
