Truck rams into tricycle, kills three in Bayelsa
A fatal accident involving a truck and a moving vehicle has claimed three lives at the Okaka area of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
The collision, which occurred at the Sani Abacha axis of Okaka, happened when a truck reportedly lost control and rammed into a car and a tricycle, popularly known as keke napep, killing three people and injuring several others.
Residents told newsmen that the truck, said to be carrying timber, veered off course before crashing into the smaller vehicles. The impact left the car and tricycle severely damaged and resulted in multiple casualties.
Passers-by and local residents rushed the injured to nearby hospitals for emergency care, while the bodies of the deceased were evacuated from the scene.
Traffic along the busy expressway was temporarily disrupted as authorities worked to clear the wreckage.
Security personnel and traffic officers cordoned off the affected section of the road to ensure safety and prevent further incidents.
Locals described the incident as “shocking,” noting that the area experiences heavy vehicular movement, particularly trucks transporting goods into Yenagoa, the state capital.
Many residents called on relevant agencies to strengthen traffic enforcement and implement stricter safety checks for heavy-duty vehicles.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Muhammad, said he would make inquiries and provide details later, but had yet to respond at the time of filing this report.
