George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF)
George Akume, secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), has charged state governors to ensure the effective deployment of the increased revenue allocations accruing to them under the current administration.
The call comes amid mounting criticism over poor development across several states, despite increased monthly allocations from the federation account.

Akume said accountability across the three tiers of government is critical to achieving sustainable development in the country.
He made the remarks at a church thanksgiving service held to mark his 72nd birthday at St. John the Baptist Cathedral, Gboko, Benue State.
According to him, national development is a collective responsibility that requires synergy among the federal, state and local governments.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Segun Imohiosen, director of media and public relations, said the SGF urged state and local governments to ensure accountability and the judicious use of enhanced federal allocations received under the Tinubu administration to drive grassroots development.
Akume thanked God for the opportunity to serve the nation through his career in the civil service and politics, noting that he had been able to empower many people despite limited resources.
He also urged Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration in its push for an infrastructure-led economic transformation.
Speaking on behalf of William Amove Avenya, bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Gboko, Isaac Dugu of the Diocese of Katsina-Ala said Akume’s 72nd birthday marked a significant moment for Benue State and Nigeria.
He called on sons and daughters of Benue holding public office to remain united, irrespective of political differences, in the interest of the state’s development.
