The management of Osun State University, Osogbo, has urged those eligible among its students to avail themselves of the opportunity provided by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund to support their education.
This was disclosed by the UNIOSUN Vice Chancellor, Prof Clement Adebooye, while speaking at the matriculation ceremony for the students admitted for the 2025/2026 academic session on the main campus of the university in Osogbo, Osun state.
A statement signed by the University Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, obtained in Osogbo on Friday, stated that the institution offered admission to over 13,000 students out of about 40,000 candidates who participated in its Post-UTME screening exercise.
In his further admonition to the students, the VC encouraged those eligible among the new intakes to apply and to take advantage of NELFUND, an initiative aimed at ensuring that no willing learner was denied education due to lack of funds.
“To support your education, the University is fully in partnership with the Federal Government’s NELFUND Student Loan Scheme, which is one of the opportunities to access funds to support you.
“I encourage eligible students to apply and to take advantage of this laudable initiative aimed at ensuring that no willing learner is denied education due to lack of funds,” Adebooye.
Also, to assist indigent but brilliant students, Adebooye said the institution have over 300 scholarship opportunities that could be leveraged by them.
He expressed concern about the challenge of student accommodation across the campuses of the university, saying many of our students have been facing exploitation from private landlords who charge exorbitant rents that place unnecessary financial burdens on them.
He assured the students that the university management was working tirelessly to address the challenge, saying, “We will break the excesses of the landlords, in the coming session, by the grace of God. We ask for your patience and understanding.”
The PUNCH reports that the university recently unveiled seven mega projects that include a new Senate Building as part of activities marking its 15th Convocation
