A man identified simply as Osemudiamen has confessed to killing his sister’s baby in Edo State while under the influence of alcohol and a hard substance.
The suspect confessed in a video seen by PUNCH Metro on Wednesday, during which he was being interrogated by security operatives.
In the video, posted on X by the anti-cultism advocacy platform Naija Confra, Osemudiamen admitted that he was intoxicated at the time of the attack.
He said, “I am here because I killed my sister’s baby. I got high with drinks and colos. It was Fredrick who gave me the colos. I met him on the way and saw him smoking.”
The suspect further disclosed that he is a member of the Aye confraternity and had been planning to renounce his membership before the incident.
He added that although he had contacted a lawyer for assistance, he could not afford the legal fees.
“I am a member of the Aiye confraternity, and I was going to deaxe myself. I even have a lawyer who wants to help me, but I did not have the money,” he said.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson for the command, Eno Ikoede, were unsuccessful, as calls to her phone went unanswered and a text message sent to her had yet to receive a response as of the time this report was filed.
The development comes amid rising incidents of crimes fuelled by hard drug use among young people.
In 2022, The Nigerian Lawyer reported that a 21-year-old man, Michael Arigbabuwo, died during a birthday party after allegedly mixing two hard drugs for maximum effect.
