Senate confirms Are, Oke, Dalhatu as ambassadors
The Senate on Tuesday confirmed the nominations of Kayode Are (Ogun), Aminu Dalhatu (Jigawa) and Ayodele Oke (Oyo) as non-career ambassador-designates.
Their confirmation followed the consideration and adoption of a report of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, chaired by Senator Sani Bello (APC, Niger North).
Addressing the chamber after the confirmation, President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, urged the newly confirmed nominees to serve as worthy representatives of Nigeria wherever they are posted.
He charged them to uphold the nation’s interests and project its image positively in the international community.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier forwarded the names of the three nominees to the Senate for confirmation. The request was conveyed in a letter read at plenary by Senate President Akpabio.
The three nominees were transmitted ahead of a larger list of 65 career and non-career ambassadorial nominees recently announced by the President.
The Senate noted that the appointments aligned with Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives and ongoing diplomatic engagements.
