Police to resume tinted glass permit enforcement Jan. 2
The Nigeria Police Force has said it will recommence enforcement of the tinted glass permit regulation from January 2, 2026.
Daily Trust had reported that the Force suspended the enforcement of the vehicle tinted glass permit in October 2025, following a court order halting the exercise.
In a statement released on Monday, the Force Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the resumption of the enforcement followed rising crimes involving vehicles.
He explained that the move came after a reassessment of prevailing security challenges and the need to protect lives and property.
He stated that the police are not under any court order preventing enforcement of the tinted glass law, noting that the earlier suspension was a voluntary decision by the Force.
According to Hundeyin, the enforcement had been paused in October to allow motorists adequate time to regularise their permits following a court case.
“Recent trends, however, reveal a disturbing rise in criminal activities perpetrated with the aid of vehicles fitted with unauthorised tinted glass.
“Some individuals and organised criminal groups have exploited this gap to conceal their identities and facilitate crimes ranging from armed robbery to kidnapping and other violent crimes,” the statement read.
Hundeyin also quoted the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, as assuring Nigerians that the exercise would be carried out professionally, with due regard for citizens’ rights and in strict compliance with the law.
He advised motorists who require tinted glass permits to apply through the appropriate channels to avoid sanctions.
