TikTok blocks night-time live streaming for Nigerian users
TikTok has temporarily disabled access to its live-streaming feature for users in Nigeria during late-night hours, citing an ongoing safety review.
The platform issued an in-app notification to creators over the weekend, informing them that the restriction forms part of an internal investigation aimed at enhancing user protection.
At exactly midnight on Sunday, TikTok sent a system-wide alert that read: “TikTok LIVE Update in Nigeria: We’re temporarily limiting LIVE late at night in Nigeria as part of our investigation to ensure our platform remains safe and our community stays protected.”
Users reported that live streaming, which remained available earlier in the evening, was shut down between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., with affected accounts displaying a “No Access” message when attempting to go live.
The limitation also blocked Nigerian users from viewing live broadcasts hosted in other countries during the restricted hours.
TikTok has not provided further details on the nature of the investigation or how long the temporary measure will remain in place.
This comes weeks after TikTok released updated safety statistics for West Africa.
During its West Africa Safety Summit in Dakar, Senegal, the company disclosed that in the second quarter of 2025, it took action against 2,321,813 LIVE sessions and 1,040,356 LIVE creators globally for violating its LIVE Monetisation guidelines.
In Nigeria alone, 49,512 LIVE sessions were banned within the same period.
TikTok also reported removing 3,780,426 videos in Nigeria between April and June 2025 for breaching Community Guidelines, with 98.7% taken down before being viewed and 91.9% removed within 24 hours.
Nigerians can now invest ₦2.5 million on premium domains and profit about ₦17-₦25 million. All earnings paid in US Dollars. Rather than wonder, click here to find out how it works.
