
Police arrest three, recover weapons after deadly rival gang clash in Kano
Police in Kano have arrested three suspects and recovered weapons following a late-night clash between rival groups that left one person dead and two others injured in parts of the ancient city.
The violence, which erupted around 10:53 p.m. on Wednesday in Kabara and Magashi quarters, reportedly involved rival groups allegedly led by individuals identified as Usaini Noni of Kabara and Umar Tautau of Magashi. Residents said the confrontation caused panic across nearby communities before security forces intervened.
Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, spokesperson, Kano State command, stated in a statement was issued on Thursday on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.
According to the statement, a combined team of officers swiftly moved to the scene after receiving distress calls and encountered a chaotic situation involving members of local vigilante groups. Security operatives immediately cordoned off the affected areas to prevent further escalation.
Three suspects — Bazallahi Umar, 20; Abdullahi Umar, 20; and Abubakar Sani, 23 — were arrested during the operation. Victims of the clash were taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, where one of them, identified as Adam Badamasi, popularly known as “Choli,” was confirmed dead, while two others are receiving treatment.
Police said sustained patrols and security presence later restored calm in the area.
The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident, pledging that all those responsible will be brought to justice.
The command also urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information to help prevent future violence, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
