CAC uncovers 15 fake companies, warns Nigerians to avoid dealings with them
The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has raised an alarm over the discovery of 15 fake companies operating in Nigeria, warning the public to stay clear of transactions with the entities, which parade registration details despite not appearing in the Commission’s official database.
The Commission explained that the alert was issued after a spike in public complaints about questionable business activities tied to the entities in question.
In a post on its official X handle, the CAC advised Nigerians to be extra cautious when dealing with individuals or organisations using any of the listed names, noting that these companies are not in its database despite flaunting fake RC (Registered Company) or BN (Business Name) numbers.

According to the Commission, this publication is in line with it’s statutory mandate to maintain an accurate, reliable companies register and to protect investors, businesses, and the general public from fraudulent activities.
“The attention of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has been drawn to the circulation and use of certain purported company names and registration numbers which are NOT registered in our records.
“The public is hereby warned to disregard these entities and exercise the highest level of caution when dealing with individuals or organisations using the names with corresponding purported RC numbers below:
“The Public is hereby advised to always verify the status of any company or business name directly from the CAC portal,” the statement read.
The CAC had advised individuals, corporate bodies and financial institutions to verify company names and registration numbers using the CAC’s online portal before entering into any business agreement.
The Commission reiterated that businesses operating without proper registration pose significant risks to consumers, adding that robust verification remains the most effective safeguard against fraud.
