Despite gains against ‘One-Chance’, car theft still troubling FCT — Police
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, says the command under his leadership has continued to reactivate operations across major crime black spots in the territory, a move he said has been yielding positive results despite a few persistent cases of vehicle theft in some parts of Abuja.
Dantawaye, who spoke during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, said some of the stolen vehicles were either snatched at gunpoint or removed from where they were parked.
“But we have also taken steps to see that we stop it completely, just as God has assisted us to tame one-chance activities across the FCT,” he said.
He added that the Command has intensified efforts to curb kidnapping in the territory, noting that the ongoing “Operation Sweep” is fully active and designed to suppress the activities of armed bandits across the FCT.
However, the CP stressed the need for stronger collaboration between the police, the public, and the media. According to him, timely and useful information remains crucial to tracking criminal hideouts and preventing attacks.
He noted that with Christmas and New Year festivities approaching, criminals may attempt to take advantage of the increased movement of people.
“And we are also trying to monitor crime migration, but we cannot do it alone. We need that farmer or transporter who has seen something suspicious to alert the police,” he said.
Dantawaye assured residents that the Command will continue to partner with stakeholders across the territory to ensure a crime-free environment.
