Nasarawa health college matriculates 114, warns against cultism

No fewer than 114 students have been matriculated into the Olivet College of Health Technology, Azuba, in the Shabu Development Area of Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

Arewa PUNCH reports that during the matriculation ceremony,  the institution warned the new entrants against engaging in examination malpractices, cultism, and other crimes.

Speaking on Saturday at the 11th matriculation ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session, the proprietor of the college, Dr. Agbo Cletus Abu noted that the school currently runs three courses to groom the students into becoming healthcare workers in the future.

He further mentioned the three courses being offered to include: Community Health Technicians, Pharmacy Technicians, and Medical Laboratory Technicians.

The proprietor, therefore, encouraged the newly admitted students to use the opportunity to develop themselves  adequately while reiterating that there would be no room for cultism, examination malpractices, and indiscipline in the school.

Dr. Abu further disclosed that, “A total of 114 students are being matriculated. Students should justify the money spent by their sponsors. There are adequate facilities for the different courses.

“We have capable manpower to handle all courses. There are laboratory facilities, demonstration laboratory, computer and ICT unit, library including E-library. There are sufficient structures for classrooms, a general purpose hall, games facilities, hostels, the library, and a clinic.”

The proprietor added that because the school is mindful of the host community, it ensures that during each academic session, there are reserved slots for tuition free scholarship for the host community students, and free medical outreaches for the indigent community  and other surrounding communities’ indigenes.

“Such outreach was held on December 4-5, 2025, in Azuba center where the issue of security is taken seriously as forest guards are employed to complement the efforts of our security personnel, who maintain the link with the community vigilante, the police out post closest and the Azuba divisional police in case of serious security breach.

“I call on the staff to always be at their best, and I call upon the government to extend the ease of doing business to the school and be handy in time of need,” he added

On his part, the Provost of the Olivet College of Health Technology, Azuba, Moses Joo urged the students to be focused and avoid distractions, saying that “The world today has many temptations—social media pressure, peer influence, and unhealthy habits.

He said, “It is with great joy and a deep sense of responsibility that I welcome you all to this year’s matriculation ceremony. Today is a special day in the life of our institution, and a defining moment for every new student gathered here.

“Matriculation is not just a formality. it is a rite of passage. It marks your official entry into the community of scholars, health workers, and future leaders trained here at the School of Health Technology.

“To our matriculating students, I say congratulations. You have earned your place here through hard work, determination, and resilience. Many applied, but only a selection of dedicated and promising minds were chosen—and you are among them.

“This honour comes with great expectations. From this day, you are no longer just students; you are ambassadors of health, entrusted with the responsibility of learning, practising, and upholding the values that define the noble field of health care.”

The Provost urged the students to be committed to excellence by regularly attending lectures, practicals, and clinical postings with seriousness, noting that “Health education is hands-on; what you learn today will shape your future practice.

“Build good character, because knowledge without character is dangerous. Let honesty, humility, and respect define you.

“Your lecturers are here to guide you. The laboratories, library, and learning facilities are here to support your growth—use them wisely,” he implored the students.

Moses Joo further expressed his gratitude to the parents and guardians for enrolling their children in the school, assuring them that they will be given the best training possible—academically, morally, and professionally.
