The Accord has announced a surge in nationwide membership following the defection of Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, to its platform, positioning the party as a growing political force ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
The National Chairman of the party, Maxwell Mgbudem, disclosed this on Tuesday during a press conference at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, where he also sought to dispel claims of factionalisation within the party.
“Since His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, joined Accord along with his political associates and supporters, our party has experienced tremendous national acceptance. Thousands of Nigerians have joined and identified with Accord across the country, a testament to Governor Adeleke’s political influence and national appeal,” Mgbudem said.
He explained that Adeleke’s entry, coupled with the influx of his supporters, has significantly strengthened the Accord Party’s national profile and bolstered its position in Nigeria’s democratic landscape.
The chairman also addressed recent controversies involving the party’s former presidential candidate, Christopher Imumolen, who has been expelled.
Mgbudem accused Imumolen of spreading misinformation and claiming leadership positions within the party to gain political relevance.
“It is laughable that Mr. Imumolen would arrogate to himself positions he never held, nor was appointed to or elected for. His claims are a mirage in his imagination and an insult to the good people of Osun State, who witnessed the emergence of Governor Adeleke as the duly nominated Accord candidate in the governorship primaries,” he stated.
Mgbudem reiterated that the party remains cohesive, stable, and focused on the upcoming elections, dismissing any attempts by political opportunists to create distractions.
“I state categorically that Accord is the most peaceful, united, and fastest-growing political party in Nigeria today. There is no faction at any level of leadership. We will not be distracted by anti-democratic forces seeking personal gain through cheap publicity,” he concluded.
