
Radda inaugurates new Katsina Council of Emirs

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State on Tuesday inaugurated the new Katsina State Council of Emirs in accordance with the provisions of the Katsina State Emirate Law, 2025.
He said the new council is vested with significant powers to advise the governor on a broad range of matters, thereby strengthening the role of traditional leaders in governance.

According to him, “As you are aware, we are here today to inaugurate the State Council of Emirs, and in compliance with the Prohibition of the Katsina State Emirate Laws 2025, I have the honour to inaugurate the new Katsina State Council of Emirs, taking cognizance of the importance of the traditional institution in our society. Today, Tuesday 16 December 2025, is therefore a historic day, where we gather to witness the inauguration of the Council.”
The council comprises of Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumini Kabir Usman as the Chairman of the Council, Emir of Daura, Faruk Umar Faruk as the Co-Chairman of the Council and all the Kingmakers from Katsina and Daura Emirate Councils among others.
Waziri Katsina, Sen. Ibrahim Mohammed Ida, as Secretary of the Council, while Sada Ruma as the Assistant Secretary of the Council.
Radda highlighted the functions of the Council to include, “The Council shall have the power to advise the Governor on any matter. Relating to Islamic law, customary law, cultural affairs, and inter-communal relationships and chieftaincy matters. Relating to maintenance of public order, peace, security within the State, and any part thereof whenever requested to do so. Affecting traditional institutions, culture, or community development. Assist the Tax Authority in collection of tax. Assist the Government in the conservation of forests and environmental protection.
“Supervise periodic sanitation within the community. Preservation of cultural heritage, promotion and preservation of traditional values. On the power vested in me as the State Governor, I therefore take this opportunity to congratulate all of you, in your selection to serve on this important Council.
“And I wish you Allah’s guidance in discharging your assignment and responsibility. I therefore inaugurate this Council”, Radda added.
