No fewer than 103 spouses of Nigerian Army personnel have completed a four-day skills acquisition and entrepreneurship programme organised by the 176 Guards Battalion in Abuja.
The training covered business development, branding and hands-on sessions in paint and yoghurt production, granola, parfait and scented-candle making.
A statement released on Wednesday by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lt. Odunola Olawuyi, said the Commanding Officer of the battalion, Lt. Col. Oladimeji Ajongbo, noted that the initiative was part of efforts to boost family welfare and enhance troops’ morale.
“The welfare of our troops is crucial and sacrosanct to ensure operational effectiveness. It extends to the well-being, stability and growth of their families. When personnel spouses are empowered, trained and equipped with productive skills, the entire military community becomes stronger.
“This initiative is designed to open doors of opportunity, promote economic independence and inspire innovation for the 103 beneficiaries in 176 Guards Battalion,” Ajongbo was quoted as saying.
Olawuyi said the participants were trained in paint production, yoghurt making, granola, parfait and scented-candle production.
During the programme, products such as “Hawk Yoghurt” and “Hawk Paints” were unveiled.
Starter kits and certificates were also presented to all participants, while five beneficiaries received Corporate Affairs Commission business registration certificates.
“Five spouses received Corporate Affairs Commission business registration certificates from Mrs Opeyemi Ajongbo to support the take-off of their businesses.
“The programme ended with practical sessions on screeding and painting, after which two buildings in the barracks were painted using the Hawk Paints produced by the trainees,” the statement added
The Army has in recent years expanded welfare initiatives for personnel families through skills development, barracks upgrades and educational support, aimed at strengthening operational readiness and family resilience.
