Couple in suspected kidnap video beg for help

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have taken a couple whose identity is yet to be ascertained in Edo State.

The victims were allegedly kidnapped  from their home in Aviele Etsako West Local Government Area of the State.

The gunmen reportedly laid an ambush for them at home and kidnapped them as they drove into their compound.

A viral video of the incident – the couple with their hands tied and their abductors pointing an AK-47 at them while they begged the kidnappers to spare their lives – is in circulation.

The man was heard in the video pleading with people to help raise the ransom demanded by their abductors.

The Command’s spokesperson,  SP Moses Yamu, said the police have commenced a manhunt for the suspects with a view to arresting them.

“The Command’s attention has been drawn to a video currently circulating on social media alleging the kidnapping of a couple in Aviele.”

He said the command has also activated all necessary operational and investigative mechanisms to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the arrest of the perpetrators.

He warned that any person found to be complicit—whether directly or indirectly—will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with extant laws.
