Mane leads Senegal to AFCON ’25 final
Senegal have advanced into AFCON 2025 final following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Egypt at the Grand stadium in Tangier, Morocco, on Wednesday.
Sadio Mane was the hero of the day, the 33 years old winger netting the winner to send Pape Thiaw’s side into another AFCON final showpiece.
A drab first half Senegal dominated was overshadowed by captain Kalidou Koulibaly’s injury that could see the defender miss the final.
Egypt could not breach the Senegal defence and had no shot on goal in the first half that ended with a scuffle between both nations on the touchline.
Mane would break Egypt’s hopes of an eighth AFCON trophy, and dash Mohamed Salah’s hopes, with a drilled shot from 20 yards out that left goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy a spectator watching the ball flash into the net.
The final whistle confirmed Senegal, AFCON 2021 champions, into a second final appearance in the last three AFCON tournaments, where they are set to face either Nigeria or Morocco Sunday, January 18.
