
Woman charged with N4.5m visa fraud
A 25-year-old woman, Fathiat Olasunmade, on Tuesday, pleaded not guilty before an Iyaganku magistrates’ court in Ibadan, Oyo State, to charges of conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretence and theft amounting to N4.5 million. The prosecutor, Inspector Adeshina Folaranmi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences between January and June, at Odo-Ona Elewe in badan. Folaranmi alleged that the defendant conspired with others (now at large) to obtain the sum of N4.5m from one Mr Ayomide Christopher under the pretence of helping him to secure a Cyprus visa. (NAN) He said that the defendant failed to get the visa, but converted the money to her personal use, contrary to Sections 390(9), 419 and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000. The Magistrate, Mrs Oluwabusayo Osho, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N3m, with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case to January 26, 2026. (NAN)
