Man, 42, in court over N2.5m visa fraud
A 42-year-old man, Ashafa Monsur, on Tuesday appeared before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, for allegedly defrauding another of N2.5million for visa processing. Monsur, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of fraud. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. The Prosecutor, ASP E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence between 2023 and 2024, at Sango-Ota. Adaraloye alleged that the defendant fraudulently collected the sum of N2.5m from the complainant, Rashidat Lawal, to process a visa to Europe for her son. He alleged that the defendant converted the said amount to his personal use instead of fulfilling the agreement between them. The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 390(8b)(9) and 418 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006. The magistrate, Mrs O.O. Fadairo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum. Fadairo directed that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government. He adjourned the case until Dec.22, for further hearing.(NAN)
