
12 miners killed in fresh attack on Plateau community
Berom Educational and Cultural Organization (BECO) says no fewer than 12 miners have been shot dead by gunmen, while many others are missing following an attack by gunmen on Fan District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
BECO Chairman and Secretary of Mining Committee in Barkin Ladi, Dagallang Davott, who confirmed the incident, said the gunmen attacked the miners, while they were engaging in mining activity on Tuesday night.
The chairman condemned the recent attack.
Dallang said, “There was an attack at Fan yesterday (Tuesday). It happened in the night. The gunmen stormed the mining site and opened fire on the miners. So, many of them fled for their lives during the incident, but 12 persons so far have been confirmed killed.”
Contacted on the development, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 3rd Division, Nigeria Army, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, simply said the army would take appropriate actions against the perpetrators.
