Troops urged to intensify onslaught against bandits
The newly appointed Theatre Commander of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Warah Idris, has charged troops to intensify their operations against bandit groups terrorising communities in the Northwest.
Addressing officers and soldiers during his operational visit to the 8 division of the Nigerian Army, Sokoto, on Wednesday, General Idris commended the troops for the recent gains recorded in the ongoing counter-banditry campaign.
He noted that areas previously under threat had been cleared, a number of armed bandits neutralised, and several weapons recovered.
“I am impressed with what I have seen so far. With your good work, successes have been achieved. But we are not going to relent; rather, we shall improve on it. Increase the tempo,” he said
The commander emphasised the importance of discipline, continuous training, and strict regimentation in sustaining progress on the battlefield.
He urged field commanders to ensure their personnel remain professionally grounded and combat-ready at all times.
“Prepare your minds to increase the tempo. Get yourselves ready—we are not here to dance and party with the bandits; we are here to eradicate them. We can only achieve this with good training, discipline, and regimentation,” he said.
General Idris reaffirmed that Operation Fansan Yamma would continue with “very high intensity,” stressing that the ultimate goal is to protect civilians and restore peace and security across the region and the country at large.
“It is our duty to protect our civilians, and we must bring back peace and security in the region and Nigeria as a whole. Give your best,” he told the troops, assuring them that the Armed Forces remain committed to their welfare.
