Itanya is new chairman of C’River sports commission
The newly appointed Chairman of the Cross River State Sports Commission, Mr Eta Lawrence Itanya, has assured that his Commission will do all that is possible to boost sporting activities in the state.
The Cross River State House of Assembly confirmed Itanya and four others- Queen Gladys Festus, Hon Njarani Gabriel Ushie, Sunny Ndep Ebam, and Ekpenyong Effiom Okon, during yesterday’s plenary following their nomination by the Governor, Prince Bassey Edet Otu.
Speaking to journalists at the State Assembly after their confirmation, Itanya promised that the members of the Commission would justify the confidence reposed in them by the governor.
“We are going to change the narrative of the Sports Commission. By the grace of God, we are not going to disappoint the state. We won’t disappoint the Governor, the 10th Assembly and the entire State” he said.
In their separate contributions, the lawmakers unanimously supported the confirmation of the nominees describing them as “square pegs in square holes”.
Chairman of the House Committee on sports, Hon. Davies Etta, representing Abi State Constituency, said the nominations were in full compliance with section 2(1) of the Cross River State Sports Commission Law of 2000 and also in tandem with section 14(4) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as altered) which dwells on geographical spread.
The Speaker of the Assembly Rt. Hon Elvert Ayambem congratulated the appointees and charged them to work hard to justify their appointments.
