WARIF hosts 7th “No Tolerance” march in Lagos

The seventh edition of the Women At Risk International Foundation’s No Tolerance march was held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, along the Ikoyi-Lekki link bridge with a mustering point at Access Bank Parking Lot, Admiralty Way, Lagos State.

The event, held as a unified stand against gender-based violence, drew passionate individuals, partners, and advocates who came out to show their support for the fight against discrimination, violence, and all forms of abuse.

The Founder of WARIF, Kemi DaSilva-Ibru, noted that the WARIF No Tolerance March Against GBV was taking place simultaneously across 15 cities, emphasising that the fight is not limited to one country or continent.

“We are marching across 15 cities, and in each one, we call on communities to come out and stand with WARIF against all forms of violence—whether it’s rape, sexual assault, child abuse, or sex trafficking,” she said.

Highlighting the impact of WARIF’s initiatives, DaSilva-Ibru added, “This march gives us a collective voice to stand together against the cause. It also encourages survivors to speak out because they see women and men uniting and rallying for them; protecting their rights, ensuring their safety. We have been able to impact the lives of the women we serve, and we offer essential services in our rape crisis centres. Our community programmes are also evidence-based, so we know they are working and can be scaled to reach even more communities.”

Speaking at the event, the Deputy British High Commissioner, Jonny Baxter, applauded the organisers for their efforts and the impact of the march, describing the occasion as one of the highlights of his year.

The First Lady of Lagos State, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, also stressed the need to remain vocal in defending vulnerable groups. She noted that although many challenges continue to affect women and girls, everyone has a responsibility to help end sexual and gender-based violence.

“We are the voice for the voiceless, and this affects many of our women, girls, and even our boys,” she said. “Each of us has a duty and a mandate to ensure that our sisters and children are safe wherever they are.”

Notable personalities present included the First Lady of Lagos State, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; the First Lady of Ogun State, Bamidele Abiodun; and the Chairman and Managing Director of Chevron Nigeria/Mid-Africa Business Unit, Jim Swartz, among others.
